Ethics and Publication Best Practices Statement

The Coletivo Cine-Fórum Journal declares:

  • To maintain high standards of ethics and good publishing practices;
  • To commit to the international principles recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), guiding its authors, editors, and Editorial Board members to align their behavior with these principles;
  • All ethical issues related to research involving human subjects are the sole responsibility of the authors;
  • In cases where the author identifies errors or inaccuracies in their published work, it is their obligation to immediately inform the journal's editorial board and cooperate for the proper correction of the problems found in the article;
  • During the evaluation of manuscripts for their intellectual content, the Editorial Board and reviewers must respect the principle of impartiality and transparency. Any discrimination based on race, gender, class, nationality, religious, or ideological beliefs that interferes with the evaluation process of the manuscripts' intellectual content is strictly prohibited;
  • Any deviations from the aforementioned rules must be reported to the Editorial Board for prompt resolution.

AUTHORS

When submitting manuscripts, authors must declare adherence to ethical publishing standards:

  • The contribution is original and unpublished;
  • The manuscript is not under evaluation for publication in another journal; otherwise, justification must be provided in "editor's comments";
  • The text avoids situations described in the plagiarism policy.

In addition to these declarations, authors commit to:

  • Restrict authorship of the submitted text to those who made significant contributions to the work, i.e., the inclusion of co-authors who did not directly participate in the research or in the submitted work violates ethical publishing principles;
  • Disclose the source(s) of financial support for the execution of the research;
  • Revise the text based on the relevance of the reviewers' comments, seeking to incorporate most of them. If any comment is considered irrelevant, the author must explain to the editor why it was not incorporated.

REVIEWERS

Members of the journal's editorial board or other Ph.D. professors with recognized expertise, acting as ad hoc reviewers, will evaluate submitted manuscripts objectively, clearly, and based on arguments. Inappropriate, ironic, or offensive comments are neither accepted nor acceptable.

When contacted, reviewers must immediately notify the editors whether they are available to review the texts and/or feel qualified to conduct the evaluation, considering that the manuscript may not fall within the reviewer’s research scope.

By accepting to review the manuscript, the reviewer commits to:

  • Following the confidentiality criterion regarding the manuscript and its review process;
  • Declining the review task if there is a conflict of interest, i.e., if the review would favor the author due to any relationship or connection between the reviewer and the author (or company or research institution);
  • Notifying the editors immediately if they become aware of substantial similarity between the manuscript under review and other published texts.

EDITORS

Editors are responsible for the final decision on whether or not to accept manuscripts evaluated by reviewers. However, this decision is not arbitrary and/or random, as it is based on the reviewers' evaluations, the journal's focus and scope, the guidelines for authors, and the manuscript's originality. Articles that present ethical issues, such as defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism (including self-plagiarism), will be rejected for publication.

Throughout the manuscript evaluation process, editors do not consider the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or ideological position. Moreover, editors uphold the highest principle of confidentiality, meaning only editors have privileged information about the authorship of the texts under review. Disclosure of any information about the authors or the submitted texts to third parties is strictly prohibited.

Following the aforementioned ethical principles, editors commit to:

  • Conducting a preliminary check of submitted manuscripts to investigate instances of plagiarism using anti-plagiarism software and ensuring there is no indication of authorship in the manuscript sent to reviewers;
  • Selecting reviewers who have no conflicts of interest with the authors;
  • Protecting the reviewers' identity.

Thus, in cases of ethical complaints regarding any submitted or published manuscript, editors must take appropriate action.
